my summary:

Eddie Brock, a journalist, is fired for looking into a corporation that was rumored to do human trials. He goes personally, and is infected by Venom, an alien from another planet. When the corporation comes after him to get their experiment back, he fights.

my thoughts on this popular opinion of this movie:

I agree with the audience's (rotten tomatoes- 80%), and disagree with the critics. The critics, in my opinion, are trying to grade a movie based on something objective. The way they grade these movies and what they grade on are subjective-- there is no objectively good morning. The audience grades the movie based on how they felt afterwards. Why is one more legitimate than the other?

my personal movie rating:

8/10.

my critical movie rating:

8/10.

if I were encouraging someone to watch this:

The movie is very queer-coded-- it's "camp." Eddie is rejected and find solidarity and companionship with the alien who lives with him. Venom and Eddie date in the comics and they kinda do that here.

personal thoughts

My feelings on this movie have been particularly and unusually hard to pinpoint. The most apparent problem I had was that Venom himself doesn’t show up until a while into the film- while I understand that they needed the time to build up Eddie’s circumstances, I found myself getting bored and mildly exasperated during the first half. However, when Venom made his appearance, I found myself much more interested. He and Eddie’s dynamic is interesting (and, as Lin stated, fairly queer-coded) and I wish we got more of them casually interacting with one another like we see towards the end of the movie. It’s because of this that I can once again see both sides. The plot itself wasn’t all too interesting, and I had less than zero investment in the romance, but the conversations and banter between Venom and Eddie really save it for me.
