my summary:

Now You See Me 2 is a sequel to the first Now You See Me movie. We are following the four horsemen as they try to unfold this plot of Owen Chase who plans to use the date from the phone he is making to then sell people’s data on the black market. The movie follows as they go get the data chip. They have the help of an FBI agent Dylan.

my thoughts on this popular opinion of this movie:

I think the audience score (on rotten tomatoes- 53%) kinda makes sense. It’s by no means a revolutionary movie, just a really fun one. I can see it being like one you watch on TV cause nothing else is on, I just personally really like it. For critic scores, I don’t understand it. Again, I feel like it’s not a revolutionary movie but it’s still like pretty decent and I think they’re being a little harsh on a movie that, again, I think is just supposed to be a fun watch rather than a deep thinker kind of movie.

my personal movie rating:

I’d rate it like a good 85-90/100. It’s not a perfect movie, but it certainly is a very fun watch.

I personally really like the characters, I think they’re all really fun. From the horsemen to the villain characters, something about them just appeals to me. I also just like the idea of a secret group using tricks and magician stuff to pull off these really amazing feats while exposing nefarious people in the process. That’s also what’s really fun, watching all the tricks and wondering how they did it and then getting to see how they did it. The end of the movie I feel like does this really well.

my critical movie rating:

For critical reason 78/100, again, not perfect. I can see some points being confusing for some people.

if I were encouraging someone to watch this:

I’d say something like “Hey, we should watch Now You See Me 2 it’s a fun movie with like a fascinating plot” or something along those lines. Or bring up Daniel Radcliffe cause he’s in it.

personal thoughts

Mars described Now You See Me 2 best, as a movie you watch when nothing else is on. Something nice to watch when sick or also background noise while doing other things. I can see both sides of the debate here, as this movie doesn’t seem like something someone would actively seek out, but not something that warrants loads of criticism, either. It falls in a nice middle ground between the two, the magic trick scenes and occasional campiness carrying whenever the plot gets particularly slow. It’s also a testament to the time it came out, encapsulating a lot of 2016 movie quirks, including many seen back in the heyday of the MCU. In short, there’s no problem in having a bit of fun with something, regardless of quality. Liking a movie is nothing to be shamed for.
