where do I get this information from, anyway?

rotten
tomatoes

ah, Rotten Tomatoes- a classic site that's certainly tried, but not always true. it's unique from other movie review platforms in that it has ratings from both critics and audiences. more often than not (at least by those around me), the critic score and sometimes the audience score do not reflect their thoughts. some disliked movies receive 100%, some loved movies receive 40%. this is likely the site with the most polarizing rankings, seriously up or seriously down. scale: x/100 %

imdb

imdb, another long-time classic! though not shown in as many movie trailers as rotten tomatoes, it's still very reliable for finding a nice mix of reviews from critics and audiences, usually all blended together. from what I've gathered, reviews here are relatively upfront and honest, very go-with-the-flow takes that manage to be a bit less fickle and more predictable than the other websites listed here.

letter-boxd

letterboxd is the home for all us pretentious moviegoers that like to document what we watch in a less uptight, professional manner. reviews range from snappy one sentence comments to paragraphs and paragraphs of detailed analyzation. it also falls in set patterns- and people hold their opinions very very strongly. it's fun, but not where you go if you want surefire compliments on your favorite flick.

you!

what info here doesn't come from my own opinion or these websites comes from my friends and family. if a review has been suggested/assisted by someone, they and their thoughts regarding a set of questions about the movie will be quoted in said review. I will also watch movies that they suggest so I can provide my own takes and greatly appreciate any given ideas!
